Stepparent Adoption: Final Hearing and the Birth Mother

by Anonymous
(Florida)

Do you have to send a Final Hearing to birth mother?

I am married to the father and the birth mother has signed a waiver of consent and in there is states that she (waives any further notice of the stepparent adoption proceeding.) The Child is 14 and has also signed his consent to be adopted.

Answer to Florida Adoption Question

Dear Anonymous,

As it states in the consent to adoption form, the birth mother does not have to be notified of any proceeding concerning this case, including the Final Hearing. Make sure her Consent to Adoption form is properly filled out, signed and notarized.

Best wishes to your new 'legal' family.
