Petition For Injunction Against Domestic Violence

by Laura from Jacksonville, Florida, Duval County

Petition For Injunction Against Domestic Violence: I have completed the affidavit however I do not have a current work address or home address for the Respondent. Will they still accept my petition?

Answer to Florida Court Forms Question

Dear Laura,

I looked at the form and I understand your confusion.

Following is a link to the website for Hubbard House in Jacksonville, Florida.

I urge you to contact them and request assistance.

The confusion in the petition against domestic violence is that the forms says you must enter the respondent's name and address.

It sounds to me that you and he may have recently split up so you don't have any idea where he is living. Talk to the domestic violence advocate about that, and find out if you can use his last known address.

I'm guessing that his last known address is your address. It is not clear to me whether he must be served with the initial petition or whether he must be served only with if the judge denies the petition and then you need to have a court hearing.
