Legal Custody Rights
by Shelby from Daytona Beach, Florida, Volusia County
Legal Custody Rights: I have custody of my son but I haven't seen him in about 2 1/2 years. I have visited but haven't lived with him and been fully a part of his life. I want him to live with me, the people he is living with aren't fit to be his caretakers.
What steps do I need to take? I'm fit to take care of him and can give him a very full life.
Answer to Florida Child Custody Question
Dear Shelby,
I don't understand what you mean when you say you have custody of your son, but you haven't seen him in about 2 1/2 years.
If you are supposed to have custody because of a court order, then you have legal custody rights.
If you left him with his caretakers for some reason, or maybe there were some problems in your life, and those problems have been solved, and there has never been a formal custody change, then you can just go and pick him up.
