Finding Biological Great Grandparents

by Ann from Pennsylvania

Finding Biological Great Grandparents: I want to find my grandmother's biological parents. Given that my grandmother was born in the 1940s I'm assuming that they are no longer living. She was definitely adopted in Florida. Does this allow me to have information about them? And how do I go about getting it?

Answer to Florida Adoption Question

Dear Ann,

You might try a site called www.adopteeconnect.com

It allows you to search through a database, and post information about who you are looking for.

In Florida adoption records are sealed and require a court order to unseal.

You can also search death certificates through http://www.deathindexes.com/florida/index.html

This covers Florida statewide. Ancestry.com is the best known site for searching genealogy http://www.ancestry.com/ If your mother was born in the 1940's it doesn't necessarily follow that your great grandmother is no longer living. You could try some simple online searches.

Elderly people don't tend to move around too much. Try 411.com or zabasearch.com. She might be living in the same house she's lived in for the past 50 years. Good luck!
