Child Support Debt Correction
by Carlos from Orlando, Florida, Orange County
Child Support Debt Correction: I have been paying child support since I separated and after the divorce to my ex I was told to pay the child support directly to her, and now I have a debt with the state for the time that I already paid. How can I fix this?
Answer to Florida Child Support Question
Dear Carlos,
Contact the
Florida Department of Revenue and inform them – and quickly.
I sincerely hope that you can document all of the payments that you made directly to your ex.
If you have canceled checks or money order stubs you are in good shape.
However, if you don't have that type of proof and your ex denies that you gave her money for support, you may need to find another way to prove it. Do not hesitate or procrastinate. Take care of this situation as quickly as you can.
The last thing that you want to happen, is that you lose your driver's license, or end up in jail for failing to pay child support when you know that you did.
